Sinasabi ko sa ‘yo: RJ Jacinto could be Duterte’s next ICT Chief after Salalima exit
Next time you hear him spin those vinlys on radio or watch him rock his strings on stage, you might be calling businessman Ramon “RJ” Jacinto as “Mr. Cabinet Secretary.”
Jacinto is the leading candidate to replace resigned Information and Communication Technology Secretary Rodolfo Salalima who made a surprise resignation Thursday.
Jacinto is currently the Presidential Adviser on Economic Affairs and Information Technology Communications with the rank of Undersecretary.
Jacinto, who is the same age as the 73-year old President, was a vocal supporter of Duterte and even composed a memorable campaign ditty for his good friend.
Jacinto used to be the vice-chair of the presidential committee on flagship programs and projects during the Ramos administration. If appointed as Salalima’s replacement, this would be Jacinto’s highest post in government.
Jacinto is the son of one of the richest man in postwar Philippines, Don Fernando Jacinto, who founded Jscinto Steel and Iligan Integrated Steel Mills, Inc. A graduate of the Ateneo School of Economics, he runs the family’s steel business, Jacinto Color Steel Inc. He also runs a profitable music business, RJ Guitars and Rajah Broadcasting Network.
