Trillanes files libel case vs Rey Joseph Nieto
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Wednesday (November 22) filed a libel case against blogger Rey Joseph Nieto for posting an article on social media which called the lawmaker a drug lord.
Trillanes filed the case before Pasay City regional trial court for the article which Nieto posted on his Facebook page “The Thinking Pinoy” on October 31, 2017.
“Having posted in the Facebook account of Respondent Nieto in the internet, this malicious imputation was published far and wide and all over the world,” read the complaint.
On October 31, Nieto posted on his Facebook page the article “Trump calls Trillanes a Drug Lord.”
With the article, Nieto noted in his post “does Trump’s government know something?”
Trillanes said the article Nieto posted was considered fake news as he noted that the source of his blog, The Philippine Star, came out with an article entitled “No Trump mention of Trillanes” in response to Nieto’s post.
In spite of the denial, Trillanes lamented that Nieto’s post received 62,000 reactions and was shared 15,759 times as of November 21.
