Marcoleta a contender for Marcos Jr’s energy chief

Will SAGIP party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta join the Marcos Cabinet soon?

President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is reportedly considering Marcoleta to head the Department of Energy (DOE), the Politiko has learned.

The Bilyonaryo, a sister site of Politiko, first reported that Marcoleta has become a dark horse for the top energy post. Marcos initially mulled on choosing Marcoleta for Energy Regulatory Commission chief but believed the lawmaker/abogado could better serve in the energy department to help push for his agenda on lowering electricity rates.

Among those supposedly included in the shortlist for the energy portfolio are Energy Regulatory Commission chair Agnes VST Devanadera and Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo, son of former President Gloria Arroyo.

The camp of Marcos however has yet to make an announcement about an addition to the next economic team.

Marcos earlier heaped praises on Marcoleta, saying his “legal prowess” will be a “great use” to the incoming administration.

Marcoleta ran for senator under the Marcos-led UniTeam ticket but he pulled out from the race a few weeks before the elections.
