Cyberattack raw? Andanar refuses to admit incompetence as reason for PNA’s latest booboo
Communications Secretary Martin Andanar has blamed the publication of editorial notes on headlines of the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on a cyberattack.
In a radio interview Monday (September 11), Andanar claimed the state-run PNA became the target of a cyberattack on September 8.
“Nitong Friday na nakita nung sa IP namin na merong isang IP address na pilit pinapasok yung lumang dashboard. Kasi may lumang website di ba? Iyong lumang dashboard pilit pinapasok nung IP address na ito,” he said.
Andanar said the old dashboard of the PNA website bore its blunders (“palpak”).
He said the old dashboard was deactivated four months ago.
The PNA became a laughingstock once again after the editorial notes on some articles published between January to April this year were posted with editorial notes.
Some of the orders were for a writer to look for a fresh angle for a story, while another was asked to turn a news report into a feature.
Andanar believes the person who attempted to open the old dashboard had a bad intention. Specifically, he said someone is trying to embarrass the PNA and him.
“Sino ba yung ibang gustong gibain dito kung hindi ako, eventually the President di ba? Siyempre under ng PCOO itong PNA so ang dami nating ginagawang reporma tapos gustong pilit gibain yung PNA. So meron talagang gustong gibain ako,” he said
Andanar said the matter is now being investigated by the National Bureau of Investigation’s Cybercrime division.
