Walang forever dapat! Lacson wants limit to Matobato ‘testimonies’
Senate investigations cannot last forever and that includes the appearances and “testimonies” of self-proclaimed killer Edgar Matobato, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Sunday.
Lacson said the Senate has been lenient with Matobato despite the inconsistencies in his testimonies in linking President Rodrigo Duterte to killings in Davao.
“Wala naman forever sa investigation sa Senado. May katapusan, dapat may tuldok, di pwedeng hanggang pwede pagbigyan si Matobato in spite of all the inconsistencies at pagsisinungaling niya, todo pasa kaming mga senador para pagbigyan ang colleague, na obvious dinedepensahan nila si Matobato,” he said in an interview on DZBB radio.
Leila de Lima at Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV,” he added.
But he also said they may also want to look into the character of Matobato by inviting relatives interviewed on television.
Matobato is expected to appear before the Senate committee on justice and human rights, which is to hold hearings on extra-judicial killings from Oct. 3 to 5.
Also expected to appear before the hearing are policemen linked to the so-called Davao Death Squad, who Matobato had linked to the supposed killings in Davao.
“That’s another matter.
Lacson also said it is high time the justice committee get to investigating beyond Matobato and his claims of past killings, saying the original purpose of the probe was to look into recent killings, some of which may involve police personnel.
So far, he said he has not seen any indication that recent killings were tolerated or sponsored by the government.
