9 senators endorse Gordon’s Dengvaxia report vs Aquino
The Senate committee report recommending the filing of criminal against former Pres. Benigno Aquino II, two of his trusted Cabinet officials and several other health officials over the Dengvaxia mess, already has majority signatures and is ready for filing any time at the upper chamber.
Senate sources said Senators Grace Poe, Win Gatchalian and Manny Pacquiao provided the needed numbers to have the said report, presented last week by blue ribbon Sen. Richard Gordon, ready for submission.
“Poe signed with reservations while Gatchalian placed a marginal note ‘with reservations and amendments’,” sources said.
Of the 17 members of the blue ribbon, the signature of nine senators would constitute the majority.
Sources further said that it’s even possible that the report will garner at least 12 signatures.
Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto is also expected to affix his signature this week, same with Senators Sonny Angara and Cynthia Villar.
“They’re still trying to work out the possibility of getting the signatures of Senators Francis Escudero, Loren Legarda and Joel Villanueva,” a source said.
Those who had signed the report as early as Monday include Senators JV Ejercito, Gordon, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Nancy Binay, Gregorio Honasan and Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III.
At least two senators, one of which already among the first to sign the report, expressed doubts whether Gordon could muster the needed number citing the lack of any basis to have Aquino recommended to be charged with graft for allowing the acquisition of P3.5-billion worth of anti-dengue vaccine in 2015.
