Aguirre tags Jamby Madrigal, Len Alonte in P100-M bribery try over De Lima case
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has named former senator Jamby Madrigal and Biñan City congresswoman Marlyn Alonte-Naguiat as the politikos who tried to bribe high-profile inmates with P100 million to recant their testimonies against Senator Leila de Lima.
In an interview over dzRH radio Friday (February 24), Aguirre said Madrigal, an heiress of a wealthy clan, tapped Alonte to bribe the inmates.
He said the politikos made the bribery offer with the help of Lalaine Madrigal Martinez, whose husband was among those who agreed to testify against De Lima in her drug trafficking cases.
The first bribery attempt allegedly took place on Wednesday (February 22) and was repeated the following day because the inmates refused the money.
Aguirre said Madrigal and Alonte supposedly wanted the inmates to recant their testimonies on or before the anniversary of People Power revolution on February 25.
On Thursday (February 23), Aguirre said a former senator and a lawmaker from the Liberal Party tried to bribe the inmates to retract their statements against De Lima.
