Aguirre wants to know why he was given ‘fake’ photo on Marawi opposition meeting

Jun 8, 2017 @ 16:43

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Thursday (June 8) assured he was not spreading fake news.

“I’m not spreading fake news,” he said in a statement.

Aguirre showed to reporters on Wednesday (June 7) a photo from his phone which he claimed is proof that members of the opposition went to Marawi City to meet with influential Moro clans a few weeks prior the attack of the Maute terrorist group.

The photo showed Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, former presidential adviser Ronald Llamas, former Pampanga Governor Mark Lapid and former Zamboanga del Sur Vice Governor Ace Cerilles.

However, the photo can be found in the Facebook account of Cerilles and it showed as being posted on September 4, 2015 with the location Iloilo International Airport.

“The photo did not come from me,” said Aguirre.

“The info was just given to me and I am having it investigated,” he added.
