Alam na! Duterte outs plan of Tito Sotto’s son to run for QC vice mayor
President Rodrigo Duterte inadvertently revealed the political plan of Senate Minority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III’s son, Gian, to run for vice mayor of Quezon City during what was supposed to be a harmless public ribbing session in Myanmar.
In his speech before the Filipino community in Nay Pyi Taw Sunday (March 19), Duterte said of Sotto: “He has a son I think, tatakbo ng konsehal sa…is it? Vice mayor sa Quezon City.”
The President described Gian Sotto, currently a city councilor, as an “excellent” public servant like his father (“Kasing husay rin ng tatay niya”).
Politiko has learned that Gian is poised to be the running mate of incumbent Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte.
The daughter of former House Speaker and now Quezon City Rep. Sonny Belmonte has confirmed her plan to run for mayor in 2019 in a magazine interview.
The incumbent mayor, Herbert Bautista, cannot run for reelection in the next polls since he is already on his third consecutive term.
Politiko’s source said Joy and Gian may jump to Duterte’s party, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) for their electoral bid.
