Alejano hits Duterte’s power-tripping, ready to suffer same fate as Trillanes
By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN
Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano is not discounting the possibility that he would suffer the same fate as his former classmate, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, whose amnesty was revoked by President Duterte.
Speaking before members of the House media, Alejano said that he was not worried with the latest development even though he was “not dismissing the possibility” that the amnesty granted to him can also be revoked “given the power-tripping that the Duterte administration is resorting to.”
“Kung pwede nila gawin yun (kay Sen. Trillanes), pwede din nilang gawin sakin. Hindi ako nababahala diyan. Tatayuan natin ‘yan at hahanapan natin ng legal na kaparaanan,” said Alejano.
“Hindi ako natatakot at handa kami sa anumang mangyayari dahil alam naming kami ay nasa tama,” he added.
Alejano stressed that President Rodrigo Duterte’s revocation of the amnesty on Trillanes which was granted by the previous administration and concurred by the Congress “is arbitrary, illegal, and clearly an abuse of presidential powers.”
Alejano and Trillanes were both members of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1995, the same batch were most of the rebel soldiers from the Magdalo Group belonged.
The partylist solon explained that since he and Trillanes were already cleared from all charges and also duly complied to all requirements set forth by the laws for his amnesty, the proclamation issued by the chief executive, “therefore, has no basis at all.”
He added that the latest act by the administration only shows “the panic now inside the government that they will go to the extreme to quell dissent.”
“Ang ginagawa ng administrasyong Duterte ay maliwanag na pagpapatahimik sa oposisyon, said Alejano.
