Alejano tells why there’s no Benham Rise issue in impeachment complaint

Mar 17, 2017 @ 14:23

A lot of people were left scratching their heads when they found out that the Benham Rise issue wasn’t even mentioned in the impeachment complaint filed by Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano Thursday (March 16).

In his explanation Friday (March 17), Alejano noted that the country’s interest is at stake in the issue. As such, he said the matter entails further study.

“National interest ang nakalagay diyan. Pinag-usapan namin kung isasama ang Benham Rise, kasi kailangan pag-aralan ng malalim,” Alejano told Unang Hirit in an interview.

Alejano, an ex-Marine captain, filed a 16-page complaint which seeks the ouster of President Rodrigo Duterte on five grounds: culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, bribery, graft and high crimes.

At any rate, the party-list politiko reckoned that Benham Rise is very vital to the country.

“I agree na ang Benham Rise ay napaka importante. Kapag may arrangement ang pangulo hindi malaman ng taumbayan kung ano nangyayari,” he said, referring to Duterte’s alleged secret arrangement with the Chinese government regarding the underwater landmass.
