Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano has asked the Department of National Defense to reserve a seat on the Air Force’s C-130 for its next re-supply mission to Pag-asa Island.

Alejan has even challenged Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Cayetano to join him on the trip to Pag-asa Island to prove the govevernment’s claim that it was in control of the nearby Sandy Cay and not China.

“Ang ginawa ko po ay sumulat po ako sa Department of National Defense nag-request po ako na sa susunod nilang re-supply mission sa Pag-asa ay sasama po ako at ang ating mga kasamahan and even members of the media,” said Alejano in a radio interview.

Alejano said the DND has yet to confirm his trip to Pag-asa Island.

Sandy Cay is a sand bar over 2.5 nautical miles west of Pag-asa Island in the South China Sea. Alejano claimed “that China seized Sandy Cay during his and Duterte’s incumbenc” and Chinese coast guard has blocked Filipino fishermen’s access to the fishing site within the country’s exclusive economic zone.

Cayetano said he would resign from his post andbar himself from any government or elective post if his critics could prove that the country lost a single island during Duterte’s time.

“I hope Sec. Cayetano will do his statement na pasamahan ako para may ebidensiya papuntahan kaagad ang Sandy Cay at makita natin sa mata natin na talagang atin yan hindi pupuwedeng magsalita lang na okay yan hindi naman nakikita wala namang nagva-validate eh di puntahan natin,” said Alejano.

During a House hearing, Cayetano said Alejano could visit Pag-asa island but the government discouraged such trips because it could antagonize China. But Alejano ditched Cayetano’s long-winded defense of China’s exertion of authority inside the country’s EEZ.
