Alisin si Jason Aquino! Leni wants ‘competent’ person to head NFA
Vice President Leni Robredo wants a “competent” and “trustworthy” person to lead the National Food Authority in wake of the rising prices of rice across the country.
Robredo said the government can easily “fix” the NFA if it is serious in fixing the rice crisis.
“Magtalaga po ng pinunong mahusay at mapagkakatiwalaan. Siguruhin na ang bawat desisyon, lalo na ukol sa pag-angkat ng bigas, ay tunay na pinag-isipan, pinagplanuhan at pinagkasunduan ng NFA Council at ng liderato ng NFA,” she suggested in a press conference Monday (September 3).
Robredo said it is important that the NFA’s decisions become “fair, transparent and truthful” so it can do its mandate and avoid being used for the benefit of unscrupulous people.
NFA is led by Administrator Jason Aquino.
Opposition senators Bam Aquino and Kiko Pangilinan have called for Aquino’s resignation in the wake of high rice prices and the poor quality of rice imported by the NFA recently.
There have been reports that the price of rice in Zamboanga City has reached P75 per kilo.
The NFA has also drawn flak after weevils or bukbok were discovered in the rice sacks it imported from Thailand.
