Alleged DDS member Matobato charged for murder try on DAR exec
Self-confessed Davao Death Squad (DDS) member Edgar Matobato has been charged for frustrated murder over his alleged attempted on the life of a Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) official in 2014.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said that the case was filed against Matobato before the Digos City court after prosecutors found probable cause to indict him in the murder try on Abet Salcedo Jr. on October 23, 2014.
Digos City prosecutors also named lawyer Norberto Sinsona as his co-accused in the case.
“Despite ample time accorded to respondents to controvert the charge, both failed to timely submit their counter-affidavits,” read the resolution of the prosecutors.
“As culled from the records, this office finds probable cause to indict the respondents for frustrated murder via conspiracy,” said prosecutors.
Matobato had earlier filed a complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman against President Rodrigo Duterte, Police Director General Ronald Dela Rosa and 26 others for the deaths of more than 1,000 persons.
He claimed that Duterte headed the DDS and was thus responsible for the deaths of these individuals. He said the DDS was formed in 1988.
