Alvarez on Bautista resignation: ‘He may still be impeached’
Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said Commission on Elections chairman Andy Bautista may still be impeached if one-third of the 293 members of the House reject the committee on justice’s report and resolution dismissing the impeachment case against him.
“Habang hindi pa sya resigned, pwede pa syang i-impeach,” Alvarez said, noting that Bautista’s resignation is not immediate and would be effective only at the end of the year.
“Unless he says the resignation is effective immediately,” the House will still deliberate on the committee report and resolution, the Speaker said.
The House is expected to take up the committee report and resolution later today (Wednesday, October 11).
“Halimbawa, kung hindi aaprubahan… diretso na yun sa Senate,” Alvarez said.
Bautista announced his resignation earlier Wednesday, though he indicated he would stay on until the end of 2017.
