Alvarez sees through LP’s plan: Duterte being ousted Erap-style

House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez says the Liberal Party (LP) is employing the “Erap formula” in its attempt to kick out President Rodrigo Duterte from Malacañang.

“Kung makikita po natin yung style po ay pareho din ng pagpapatanggal kay Presidente Erap. Yun pa rin yung mga taong yun ang involved,” Alvarez in a DZBB interview Saturday afternoon (March 18).

The Speaker was referring to former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada, who walked out of the Palace in January 2001 amid his impeachment trial. The impeachment complaint, which was filed at the House of Representatives (HOR) the years before, had to do with his alleged pocketing of huge “jueteng” payoffs.

On Thursday, opposition congressman Gary Alejano of Magdalo party-list filed in the HOR the first ever impeachment complaint against Duterte, who is Alvarez’s party mate and close pal.

Alejano is part of the “Magnificent 7,” which is mostly composed of LP stalwarts.

In fact, Alvarez has directly linked LP Interim Chairperson, Vice President Leni Robredo to the moves to oust the Chief Executive.

“Mas malinaw pa sa sikat ng araw iyan, at hindi naman tayo pinanganak kahapon,” he said of Robredo’s involvement.

Alvarez then gave this appeal to the Filipino people in light of the impeachment raps against Duterte.

“Alam niyo dapat magkaisa tayo dito sa paglaban ng mga ganitong puwersa, kagaya po ng ipinakita natin noong naghalal tayo ng Pangulo, nagkaisa po tayo paghalal kay Presidente Duterte. Now, again, kailangan po magkaisa rin tayo and we have to be vigilant, kasi otherwise wala na pong pupuntahan itong bansa natin.”
