Ang daming gastos! Robredo lawyer admits poll protest fees caused dip in net worth
Vice President Leni Robredo’s net worth declined by P2.1 million in her first six months in office because of the expenses she had to shoulder regarding election protest filed against her by former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., her legal adviser said.
Former Akbayan Rep. Barry Gutierrez said some of the expenses Robredo had to pay in her counter protest against Marcos was the filing fee.
“Family and personal expenses” also accounted for the dip in her net worth, he said in a statement Thursday (May 18).
As of December 31, 2016, Robredo’s net worth was P8,878,111.43, in contrast to the P11 million she had back on June 30.
The reduction in the Vice President’s wealth was caused by a dip in her cash: she had P11.1 million when she assumed office but by the end of the year, she only had P8.9 million.
Earlier this month, Robredo admitted she had to borrow money from the relatives of her late husband, former Naga City mayor Jesse Robredo, to raise the P8 million required by the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET).
She has until July to raise the remaining P7.43 million cash bond for the electoral case.
