Ano pang gusto ni Trillanes? Panelo: Duterte signed bank secrecy waiver in May 2016
President Rodrigo Duterte has already signed a bank secrecy waiver long before a challenge was issued by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, his legal adviser said Monday (September 11).
In a statement, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said Duterte already signed a waiver for his bank accounts “a long time ago particularly in the first week of May, 2016 with the BPI as regards his allegation that PRRD (Duterte’s initials) has PHP 211 M in his savings account. The waiver remains valid.”
Panelo said the waiver issued by Duterte will allow the bank to divulge the transactional details of his account.
Earlier in the day, Trillanes dared Duterte to sign a bank secrecy waiver after the President accused him of having offshore bank accounts.
He said the waivers will allow the Anti-Money Laundering Council and the Office of the Ombudsman to look into his bank accounts, even non-existent ones that are linked to him.
Duterte has accused Trillanes of having several bank accounts overseas. He said he will release details about them soon.
Trillanes previously accused Duterte of keeping over P200 million in undeclared deposits in his bank accounts.
