Another Arroyo plunder co-accused acquitted
Another co-accused of former President and current Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has been acquitted of plunder over the missing P366 million intelligence funds of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
The Sandiganbayan 1st Division has granted the motion of former Commission on Audit (COA) confidential fund unit director Nilda Plaras to dismiss the case against her. The Supreme Court (SC) had already acquitted Arroyo in the case.
In its resolution, the anti-graft court cited the SC ruling over Arroyo and said the prosecutors failed the show that Plaras is the main plunderer.
Because of this, the anti-graft court ruled “the instant case against accused Plaras has no more leg to stand on, thus, warranting its dismissal.”
With the acquittal of Plaras, the only remaining accused in the plunder case is former PCSO general manager Rosario Uriarte.
After years in hiding, Uriarte who is stricken with breast cancer returned to the Philippines on November 2016.
