Ansabe ni Alvarez? Duterte picks Joy Belmonte as QC mayoralty bet
The efforts of Quezon City Rep. Feliciano Belmonte Jr. and his daughter, Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, to be close to President Rodrigo Duterte have paid off.
Duterte on Saturday (March 17) endorsed Joy as PDP-Laban’s 2019 mayoralty candidate for Quezon City by raising her hand at the One Mindanao event sponsored by the Department of Agriculture.
The President, as well as Joy and other politikos, were in Davao City for the celebration of its foundation day.
Duterte’s endorsement of Joy has given her an upper hand in the mayoralty race in which Quezon City Rep. Vincent “Bingbong” Crisologo is also rumored to run.
Crisologo is said to be the choice of House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez as PDP-Laban’s mayoralty candidate.
Despite being a Liberal Party stalwart, Feliciano Jr. has been tagging along in Duterte’s foreign trips to be closer to the President for the sake of his daughter.
The former Speaker and Duterte became friends since they were together as lawmakers in the 11th Congress.
