The Philippine government is preparing the US extradition of a Filipino doctor implicated in planned attacks in New York City’s subway, Times Square, and other public places.

The extradition proceedings are part of the government’s commitment to cooperate with the United States and other allies in the campaign against terrorism, Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella explained in a statement posted by PTV-4 on Facebook.

Salic, one of the three people charged for a failed terror plot in New York, is
currently under National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) custody. He is being investigated by the Department of Justice over kidnapping and murder charges.

“The Philippines shares information and extends full cooperation with partners on matters pertaining to terrorism, and in the case of Dr. Salic will include initiating extradition proceedings being requested by the US,” said Abella said.

“The preliminary investigation of the case against Mr. Salic will continue while extradition proceedings are being processed,” he said.
