Astang turista! Cesar Montano rushes speech at DOT’s New York event to watch ‘Hamilton’
Tourism Promotions Board Chief Operating Officer (COO) Cesar Montano forgot he’s already a government official when he went to New York last week for dinner meant to showcase the best in Philippine tourism and fashion.
A source told Politiko that Montano rushed through his speech at the Philippine Tourism Presentation and Dinner Reception on May 9 because he wanted to watch “Hamilton,” a musical.
Politiko’s source, who was present at the dinner, said Montano spoke for about two minutes before leaving the venue, the Grand Ballroom of the Roosevelt Hotel at 45 East 45th Street.
He said he had tickets to “Hamilton” and had to leave as soon as possible.
The actor’s abrupt exit shocked and appalled the guests, particularly because he was introduced as the keynote speaker at the event.
With former Secretary Wanda Teo facing several problems at home, Montano was the highest Department of Tourism (DOT) official in New York who was expected to market the Philippines to American officials and guests.
He was even named a host in the invitation, alongside Teo.
Unfortunately, amateurism got the better of Montano and he chose to watch a musical than do his job.
