Ateneo’s Leloy Claudio’s wake up call for Duterte die-hards: You’re elite too

Mar 27, 2017 @ 20:53

Political analyst Lisandro Elias “Leloy” Claudio just gave a snappy response to supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte who deride him for coming from the elite Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU).

Claudio, an Ateneo alumnus who also teaches political science at the Jesuit-run university, said people who not coming from the so-called “Big 3 universities”– ADMU, University of Santo Tomas and De La Salle University– shouldn’t consider themselves ordinary people.

“Sorry, that doesn’t make you ‘ordinary.’ We are all elite compared to the victims of Tokhang,” he said, addressing supporters of Duterte in a Facebook post dated March 21.

Claudio has been critical of some of Duterte’s policies, such as the war on drugs, his statements on martial law and his approval of a hero’s burial for dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
