Atras si Digong! Baste to ride jet ski to PH rise instead of President
President Rodrigo Duterte will no longer ride a jet ski when he visits the Philippine Rise Monday (May 15).
Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go said he and Duterte’s son, Sebastian or Baste, will ride the jet ski instead.
Go did not give any reason as to why Duterte will no longer push through with the jet ski ride.
A number of jet skis were seen on board the BRP Davao del Sur earlier in the day, giving rise to the speculation that Duterte will ride one when he visits the undersea plateau.
The President is expected to be at the Philippine Rise in the afternoon to celebrate the first anniversary of its renaming from Benham Rise. He will also lead the send-off ceremony for the 50 Filipino scientists who conduct research in the area.
The Philippine Rise is a resource-rich undersea plateau located off the coast of Aurora.
Duterte earlier said he wants to visit Philippine Rise to assert the country’s sovereignty over the area.
He said it was easier to go to Philippine Rise than the Spratlys Group of Islands in the West Philippine Sea due to logistical concerns.
“Ang problema ang jet ski kailangan ng gasolina. Eh in the midst sa China Sea wala namang Caltex, wala namang Shell, wala namang Petron. ‘Pag naubos ako ng gasolina, p***. Saan ako, maglutaw-lutaw ako doon?” he said in a press conference on April 29.
