Ayaw maging underdog: Sereno’s advisers dismayed by outbursts
Advisers of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno are disappointed about her continued combative attitude in the face of separate impeachment and quo warranto proceedings started against her.
Politiko has learned that Sereno has been disregarding her advisers’ suggestion for her to keep a low profile since going on leave last March.
The Chief Justice has been making the rounds of schools and special events instead to hit the Supreme Court for entertaining the quo warranto petition filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida, as well as President Rodrigo Duterte.
Sereno’s advisers believe it would have been best if she stayed silent on the cases she is facing since Filipinos love an underdog– especially a woman.
They are convinced the Chief Justice will have better chances weathering the political storm brewing against her in Congress and the judiciary if she just kept her mouth shut.
Sereno’s advisers also believe she will have a fighting chance of becoming a senator if she had kept a low profile.
Alas, the Chief Justice is unstoppable.
In a speech earlier this month, Sereno asked the President to explain his supposed role in moves to remove her from office.
The Chief Justice’s remark prompted Duterte to order Congress to rush the impeachment proceedings against her.
Duterte said Sereno should consider him as her enemy if she believes he wants her to lose her post.
