Baka mabago pa: Guevarra to review dismissal of estafa raps vs. Okada
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has assured it will review the dismissed the $10 million estafa complaints against Japanese billionaire Kazuo Okada.
Guevarra made this assurance after the complainant, Tiger Resorts Leisure & Entertainment Inc. (TRLEI), has filed a motion for reconsideration which sought to reverse the dismissal made by Paranaque City Prosecutor Amerhassan Paudac.
“If upon review the DOJ sees it differently, the resolutions may be set aside, reversed or modified accordingly,” said Guevarra on Wednesday (June 13).
TRLEI, which operates Okada Manila hotel and casino, filed two estafa complaints against Okada before the Paranaque Prosecutor’s Office over allegations of embezzling over $10 million from the complainant from 2016 to 2017.
TRLEI majority shareholders removed Okada as chief executive officer because of the allegations.
Meanwhile, Guevarra assured TRLEI that Paudac and even Acting Prosecutor General Jorge Catalan Jr. have inhibit themselves from the estafa cases.
The Secretary said he also ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe allegations that a copy of Paudac’s resolution was leaked to Okada’s girlfriend, Chloe Kim.
TRLEI had sought Paudac’s inhibition after learning Kim has been posting on her social media accounts copies of the resolution prior its official release.
