Baka nambobola lang si Cayetano: Hilbay mulls going to SC to access diplomatic protests filed by DFA vs. China
Former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay said the current administration should show proof that it has been filing protests against the activities of China over the West Philippine Sea.
Otherwise, Hilbay said he will have to rummage through government files to find one.
“We are thinking of filing a petition for mandamus just to have access,” he said in a recent forum.
“Those are matters of public concern that the public should have access to, we want to know whether or not they invoke the decision,” he added.
Hilbay reacted to the claims of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano that the Philippines has been filing protests against the activities of China over the West Philippine Sea.
When he was still solicitor general, Hilbay was part of the team which secured the 2016 Philippine victory before the Permanent Court of Arbitration against China.
The international tribunal ruling showed favor over the Philippines sovereign rights over the West Philippine Sea.
However, Hilbay has become a vocal critic of President Rodrigo Duterte for not taking advantage of the ruling and for showing a weak stance against China.
