Bakit naabswelto ang big fish? Gordon urges Duterte to look into DOJ dismissal of drug case vs Espinosa, Lim
Senator Richard Gordon on Tuesday warned President Duterte over the possibility of the dismissal of the drug charges against Kerwin Espinosa and Peter Lim taking its toll on the administration’s war against drugs.
“Masusugatan ‘yan pagka hindi inayos y’an. And I’m advising the President as a friend, not as a political ally, because I do not belong to his political party that he should look into this right away sapagkat medyo maselan yung pagka dismiss nitong kay Kerwin at saka kay Peter Lim,” Gordon said.
“Kung may kaso, dapat tingnan nya. Fiscal si President dati (so) dapat malaman nya kung tama yung ginagawa ng kanyang secretary of justice,” he added.
Gordon led the Senate probe on the alleged extrajudicial killings, widely perceived to have been brought about by the government’s anti-drug campaign, with the casualties ending up mostly drug personalities.
“Bakit tayo mag da-drug war kung ‘yung taong malalaki eh dismissed mga kaso? I don’t know if the President is aware of it. He must be aware of it. And I don’t know if there’s a bigger game plan pero dapat talaga yan ay sitahin ng Pangulo,” he said.
“I condemn that to the highest level. I don’t know kung ano pumasok sa kanilang kalooban,” the senator added.
Gordon said he could only surmise the possibility that the government is out to turn Espinosa into a state witness to go after the so-called big fish.
“Maaring ganun eh hind ko alam. Maliit na isda lang ‘yun (si Espinosa). Ang daming mas malaking isda dyan, hindi pa nahuhuli,” he said.
