Bakit sinampolan si ‘Tesdaman’? Bro. Eddie dazed and confused by Joel Villanueva’s pork scam conviction

Jesus Is Lord founder Bro. Eddie Villanueva must have been in a state of shock when he heard the news that Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales ordered the dismissal from government service of his son, Sen. Joel Villanueva.

The 70-year old pastor posted on Twitter these questions shortly after getting wind of the bad news:

Morales found the former head of the former Director General of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) guilty of grave misconduct, serious dishonesty and conduct prejudicial to the interest of the service.

Joel, a congressional representative of the Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) from 2001 to 2010, diverted P10 million of Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) to a bogus foundation (Aaron Foundation Philippines, Inc.) and conniving government executives (former Agriculture Secretary and uncumbent Bohol Rep. Arthur Yap) similar to pork barrel scam masterminded by Janet Lim Napoles.

Curiously, the elder Villanueva posted another tweet with more questions not related to his son’s case:

Apparently, Bro. Eddie felt that the case against his son was old hat and that this was just part of politics considering that he was a spiritual adviser of former President Benigno Aquino III and that Joel ran under Liberal Party.

None of the JIL’s million followers pointed out to Bro. Eddie that Joel was one of the 17 senators who voted with 15 other senators to oust Senator Leila de Lima as chair of the Senate Justice committee in a bid to stop the testimony of self-confessed hitman Matobato.

More fact check: the pork scam case against Villanueva was initiated by de Lima herself when she was Justice Secretary; and Morales was an appointee of Aquino just like Joel.

Does Villanueva work or decide along political lines?

On the same day he got his dismissal order from the Ombudsman, Joel also voted to support a resolution by Sen. Risa Hontiveros urging the Senate to declare the late President Ferdinant Marcos unfit to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. I wasn’t carried.

Fact check: Marcos’ daughter, Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos, endorsed Villanueva in the recent senatorial elections as both developed a friendship at Batasan when they were seatmates during their time in Congress.

So is Joel pro-Aquino or pro-Marcos or pro-Duterte (he belongs to the administration-led Senate majority)? You decide dear readers.

As for Bro. Eddie, we’d like to remind him of his favorite biblical verse: “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34)
