Bastos talaga! Duterte encourages rape culture – Alejano
By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN
Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano slammed President Rodrigo Duterte for disrespecting women following his latest rape joke.
Alejano said Duterte being the father of the nation should protect all Filipinas instead of harming them through nonsense joke.
“Have we lost the respect for women in our Filipino values?” said Alejano
He said that he previous statements of Duterte, including this recent one in Mandaue City “encourages a rape culture which places women in danger.”
Alejano said the very first person that should protect us, especially the women, should be Duterte—the “father of this nation.”
“Nakakadismaya na ilang ulit na tayong nakakarinig sa Pangulo ng pambabastos sa ating kababaihan,” said Alejano.
The former rebel soldier stressed that disrespect of women does not have a place in the Filipino society, regardless of wherever part of the country you came from.
“If we continue to hear derogatory remarks from the leaders and accept them as part of our culture, who are we now as a nation?” said Alejano
“Mariin kong kinokondena ang anumang pagyurak sa karapatan ng mga kababaihan.”
In his speech in Mandaue City, Duterte joked that the real reason why volume of rape cases ballooned in his hometown in Davao City was due to many beautiful Davaoeñas.
“They said that Davao had many rape cases. For as long as there are many beautiful women, there are plenty of rape cases as well,” said Duterte.
