Bastusan na! Draft Constitution removes VP from succession line during transition period
The proposed federal Constitution authored by House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo removes the Vice President from the line of succession in case the President steps down or is unable to do his job during the transition period.
Section 4 of the Transitory Provisions of Resolution of Both Houses Number 15 states that: “In case a vacancy arises by reason of removal, resignation, permanent incapacity or death of the incumbent President, the incumbent Senate President shall act as President until the election of the next President and Vice President.”
Robredo’s victory in the 2016 elections is being questioned by former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal. A recount of votes is ongoing.
President Rodrigo Duterte has repeatedly belittled Robredo, saying she is “incapable” of succeeding him as President. He also said the Vice President is “weak.”
