Ba’t si Leni pa? Duterte thinks succession is a problem
President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday (September 4) said he was willing to step down immediately because of corruption in the government– if only Vice President Leni Robredo would not succeed him.
In an speech during the signing of agreements with the private sector in Israel, Duterte said he had told the military that he could leave his office if they want another person to be president.
“Problem is, there’s a constitutional succession. I cannot talk about the Vice President. But I certainly would prefer that something… if I go out, something more attuned with the– you know the ways of human frailty and human greed and the tendency of people to find the easier route and follow the normal course of uncorrect things,” he said.
Duterte has been vocal about his dislike for Robredo as his successor, saying she is “incompetent” to succeed him.
The President also said he prefers a military junta or the likes of Senator Francis Escudero and former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. over Robredo.
