Berna Romulo Puyat cool to holding Miss Universe again in PH: There are other ways to promote tourism
Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo Puyat isn’t keen on holding Miss Universe in the country again anytime soon.
In an interview on GMA News’ “State of the Nation” Tuesday (May 15), Puyat said there are other ways to promote tourism other than holding a beauty pageant.
“Baka parang kasing kakaroon lang natin ng Ms. Universe maybe maghintay-hintay muna tayo,” she said.
“Yung sa akin there are other ways to promote tourism and Miss Universe is a very good program. Baka puwede tayong maghanap ng ibang programa like i-try nating i-continue Madrid Fusion,” she added.
Puyat, who was an Undersecretary at the Department of Agriculture before her appointment as Tourism Secretary, said events like Madrid Fusion will not only promote tourism but also agriculture.
Madrid Fusion is a gastronomy congress that was held in Manila from 2015 to 2017.
Miss Universe was held in Manila earlier this year under then-Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo.
There were reports that Miss Universe organizers are interested to hold the pageant in the Philippines again.
