‘Boa’ can’t get past Bong Go: Roque shut out of Duterte’s meeting with Trump while aide scores selfie
As far as aides go, Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go proved he’s even more powerful than some of the highest officials in the country because he witnessed the historic first meeting between President Rodrigo Duterte and United States President Donald Trump.
As proof just how special Go is, not even Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque managed to enter the room where Duterte and Trump had a brief but cordial encounter at the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
In a press conference in Da Nang, Vietnam, Roque admitted his information on Duterte and Trump’s meeting came from Go.
“I, myself, was not present in the room but I got the information from Secretary Bong Go, who is the Special Assistant to the President. Albeit short, it was very warm and cordial and President Trump reportedly told President Duterte that he will see him tomorrow,” he said.
Roque again acknowledged that Go had exclusive dibs on the meeting when he said Duterte’s long time aide snapped a photo of the two leaders talking.
As far as access to the President goes, it appears Roque is having a hard time slithering his way closer to Duterte.
