Bong Go beats ‘Boa Constrictor:’ Roque finds out he can’t slither his way to Duterte
Harry Roque may be the spokesperson of President Rodrigo Duterte, but that doesn’t mean he has access to the most powerful man in the country at all times.
In a press conference Monday (November 6), Roque admitted he often has to course his questions to Duterte through Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go.
“When I have the occasion, I confirm directly. If — if not, then I confirm it through Secretary Go,” he said.
Asked if he had confirmed some statements he made publicly through Go, Roque was evasive.
“Bahala na kami doon,” he said.
Despite his position, Go wields great power because of his literal closeness to the President.
Go earned the nickname “Pambansang Photobomber” during the campaign season for the 2016 elections because he was always by the then-mayor’s side.
He holds Duterte’s cellphone and all of the President’s calls and messages pass through him.
Roque has described himself as a “boa” constrictor” who can’t easily be bullied or messed with in the snake pit known as Malacañang.
