Bromance alert! Duterte tells Xi Jinping: Thank you for loving us
President Rodrigo Duterte couldn’t help but gush at the magnanimity and generosity of Chinese President Xi Jinping after China agreed to double its importation of certain Philippine fruits.
In a speech before the Philippine Councilors’ League Wednesday (March 8), Duterte shared the productive meeting he recently had with Chinese Commerce Minister Zhong Shan.
He said Zhong not only told him that China wants the Philippines to import P10 billion worth of fruits, but he also handed a total of $200 million: $100 million each for the “Finance people” and $100 million for the earthquake victims in Surigao.
“Kita mo kung magbigay ng aid—one billion dollars, hindi pesos. Kaya ganun na lang ang pasalamat ko,” Duterte said.
Elated by China’s generosity, the President said: “So let me publicly again thank President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people for loving us and giving us enough leeway to survive the rigors of economic life in this planet.”
Duterte expressed belief that China’s relationship with the Philippines improved because he told Xi during his state visit to Beijing last year that he wants to be friends with the Chinese leader.
