Court Administrator Atty. Midas Marquez, who is testifying in the impeachment case against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, was present at the birthday party of impeachment complainant Atty. Lorenzo Gadon in March.

In a Facebook post by Vivian Velez, Marquez appeared in a photo with Velez taken during the birthday party of Gadon.

Like certain lawmakers in the House Committee on Justice, Velez called Marquez as “Justice Midas Marquez” in the photo’s caption.

“We only get together when there’s a good reason and last night was a great one. It was the birthday bash of our very good friend Atty. Larry Gadon at Cafe Del Mar. Thanks SLG, we had so much fun… with Pompy, close friends and associates,” Velez wrote on Facebook.

However, Gadon told Politiko that there were people at Cafe Del Mar who were not his guests as it was open to the public.

“The party was in a bar not exclusive to me and my guests. In fact may ibang nasa bar na hindi ko bisita, the bar was open to public,” Gadon told Politiko in a text message.

“Maraming mga sosyal at sikat nagpupunta dun. He probably was there [because] its (sic) open to public and being sikat nag take photo mga tao,” he said in a separate message to Politiko.

Meanwhile, the Sereno camp declined to comment on the photos.

“I hope you understand, the [Chief Justice] does not wish to speculate on those photos,” Sereno spokesperson Josalyn Deinla said.

Others present at Gadon’s “birthday bash” include former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, former congressman Omar Fajardo and his wife Department of Trade and Industry Assistant Secretary Ameenah Fajardo and Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption chair Dante Jimenez.

Marquez is testifying in impeachment hearings on certain allegations against the Chief Justice, including Sereno’s alleged creation of a Judicial Decentralization Office and her alleged delaying of retirement and survivorship benefits of judges and justices.
