Bumigay na! De Lima skips session after having sleepless nights
The incessant attacks on Senator Leila de Lima has taken a toll on her health, forcing her to skip plenary session Wednesday (Sept. 21).
De Lima’s staff said she was unable to go to work because she wasn’t feeling well.
Only on Monday (Sept. 19), the senator lost chairmanship of the Senate committee on justice and human rights.
De Lima was accused of using the panel to dig up dirt on President Rodrigo Duterte after she presented a self-confessed hitman during the Sept. 15 hearing who claimed to have killed several people on the Chief Executive’s orders when he was city mayor.
Following her ouster, the senator said she has only had three hours of sleep.
De Lima’s problems are compounded by two ethics complaints filed against her in the Senate, a pending electoral protest before the Senate Electoral Tribunal and the House of Representatives’ hearing on the drug trade in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
Witnesses presented at the House probe claimed De Lima tolerated the illegal drug trade inside the national penitentiary when she was justice secretary, and even received multimillion-peso payoffs from drug lords detained at the NBP monthly.
