‘Cardholder’ na dapat! Robredo tells how Jesse would’ve spent 60th birthday
Former Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo would’ve turned 60 on Sunday (May 27) if he did not die in a plane crash in 2012.
His widow, Vice President Leni Robredo, couldn’t help but imagine their celebration if Jesse reached the start of his senior citizen years.
During a tour of the Jesse Robredo museum in Naga City, the Vice President said they would’ve celebrated Jesse’s 60th birthday with a simple dinner.
“‘Yung pamilya kasi namin, hindi naman kami mahilig mag-party. Noong nasa City Hall siya, iyong employees ang nagsu-surprise para sa kaniya. Noong nasa DILG siya, ganoon din,” she explained.
Robredo said neither she nor her husband were a fan of grandiose parties with several guests.
“Kaya tingin ko kahit 60th birthday, kung buhay siya ganoon pa din iyong celebration—quiet na birthday lang with the family, unless kung saang opisina man siya nandoon mayroong hinanda para sa kaniya,” she said.
While Jesse is already dead, Robredo said she was touched by the Naga government’s gesture of making a senior citizen’s ID card for him.
“Siguro magiging sentro ng biruan sa family. Pero parang exciting din isipin na buhay pa siya at ano iyong gagawin niya sa kaniyang Senior Citizen’s ID,” she said.
