In case of sudden death, Duterte says PH to have a ‘gentle President’ in Robredo
The Philippines will have a “gentle President” should President Rodrigo Duterte die all of a sudden, he said on Tuesday (Nov. 29).
Speaking at the inauguration of the Mega Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Nueva Ecija, Duterte said he is determined to push through with his scheduled visit to Marawi City the following day despite an attack on his advance party, which left nine people injured.
Aware of the dangers accompanying his trip to Mindanao, the President said: “Maybe we can have a little gunfight here, gunfight there. Exercise. Baka.”
“Kung hindi ako lulusot eh nandiyan naman, that’s why we have a Vice President Leni Robredo. Then you can have a gentle President also in exchange for a discourteous — a discourteous mouth,” he added.
Seven members of the Presidential Security Group and three soldiers were wounded when an improvised explosive device planted near the road exploded near their convoy.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines have yet to determine if the attack targeted Duterte or if it was an offshoot of the offensive against the Maute local terrorist group.
