Challenge accepted! Robredo willing to lead opposition vs. Duterte
After years of criticizing certain policies and remarks of President Rodrigo Duterte, Vice President Leni Robredo has finally embraced the role of opposition leader.
Robredo on Tuesday (July 10) said she is willing to lead the opposition amid the emergence of several groups criticizing the administration.
“Ngayon mayroong initiatives na iyong iba’t ibang grupong gumagalawa mag-u-unite, at hiningi ng mga grupong iyon if I can lead. Ang sabi ko oo, pero kailangang pag-usapan iyong mga terms,” she said in a press briefing.
Robredo said she wants to know from opposition groups what issues they will agree on, and whether their unity will extend to support in fielding a common opposition slate in the 2019 polls.
“May proposal na maghanap ng parang least common denominator– ano ba iyong pwede natin pagkaisahan na mas malakas tayo, na mas malakas iyong boses natin, namin?” she explained.
Robredo is the highest ranking official of the Liberal Party, which used to be the ruling party under the Aquino administration.
The Vice President said it will be better for the opposition to have one voice.
She said she is willing to unite the opposition to ensure their messages gets across to the public.
“Mahirap kasi kung lahat maingay. Mahirap kung ang daming nagsasalita nang sabay-sabay, lalong hindi maririnig,” Robredo said.
