It’s chaos in Duterte Cabinet as communists go head to head with pro-capitalists
President Rodrigo Duterte has admitted that not all is well in the Cabinet as officials with Communist leanings sometimes engage in heated debates with those who don’t share their beliefs during meetings.
In his speech before the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Saturday (Jan. 14), Duterte took pride in the “bright” men and women he tapped to become Cabinet members.
Among the names he mentioned were Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez, Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. and socioeconomic planning secretary Ernesto Pernia.
After mentioning the Left-leaning members of his Cabinet such as Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo, Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael Mariano and National Anti-Poverty Commission chair Liza Maza, Duterte said: “Kaya ‘yung aming Cabinet, it’s a very, not chaotic but ang gulo. Magulo, magulo.”
Despite disagreements, however, Duterte said Cabinet meetings still end up “okay.”
Recently, Leftist politikos slammed Duterte’s economic managers, which includes Dominguez and Pernia, for advising against the approval of a P2,000 hike in Social Security System monthly pensions.
Duterte eventually approved the raise but with a corresponding 1.5-percent hike in members’ contributions.
