The once powerful Lakas Christian-Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) is eyeing to reclaim its lost glory at least in the local level as the party is expected to field a start-studded roster in the upcoming polls in Parañaque City.
Former Parañaque City Mayor Florencio Bernabe Jr. said at least five personalities from the entertainment and sports are expected to join his mayoralty ticket under Lakas.
Veteran actor Christopher “Boyet” De Leon will make a political comeback under Bernabe’s ticket and will run as congressman in the city’s first legislative district.
De Leon was not present during Thursday oath-taking of new Lakas members in the House of Representatives but Bernabe gave an assurance that the award-winning actor who is already not new local politics will join the party’s line-up in Parañaque City.
“He will be eventually joining us,” said Bernabe.
De Leon previously served as a provincial board member in Batangas from 2010 to 2013.
Former actor and incumbent HUDCC deputy secretary-general Jeremy Marquez will also run under Lakas as Bernabe’s vice-mayor. Marquez is a son of veteran actor and former Parañaque City Mayor Joey Marquez.
Other celebrities who are vying for a seat in Parañaque’s city council under Lakas include Rochelle Barrameda, former Kapamilya actor Dominic Ochoa and former PBA player Jolly Escobar.
Former Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, president of Lakas-CMD together with the party’s secretary-general, Deputy Speaker Prospero “Butch” Pichay Jr. spearheaded the oath-taking at the social hall of the Lower House.
