Closer to becoming chair: Duterte appoints Popoy De Vera as CHED officer-in-charge
President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Prospero “Popoy” De Vera as officer-in-charge following the resignation of chairperson Patricia Licuanan.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea issued the memorandum on De Vera’s appointment on January 24.
“Upon the instruction of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, and to ensure the continuous and effective delivery of public service, please be informed that you are hereby designated as Officer-in-Charge of the Commission on Higher Education, effective immediately,” the memorandum read.
De Vera, a former vice president of the University of the Philippines, was appointed by Duterte to CHED.
Licuanan resigned earlier this month after facing criticism over her overseas trips and failure to implement certain programs of the commission.
She stepped down after receiving a phone call from Medialdea.
