Confeeeermed! Duterte’s hunch correct: Reds, Yellows to join forces at Sept. 21 rally

Sep 17, 2017 @ 20:54

It’s an alliance many thought would never happen: Leftist personalities brandishing the color red, and entities aligned with the “yellow” Aquino administration joining forces to protest against the “tyranny and fascism” of President Rodrigo Duterte’s government.

“Tindig Pilipinas,” a movement to be launched Monday (September 18), will join the September 21 rally organized by the Movement Against Tyranny (MAT) in Luneta.

This was confirmed by Senator Leila de Lima in a handwritten note released Sunday (September 17).

“Sama-sama po nating ihayag ang ating pagtutol sa mapaniil na gobyerno, at manindigan upang itigil na ang dahas at kabuktutan sa ating lipunan,” she said.

The date of the rally coincides with the 45th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law.

Based on a media advisory sent by Tindig Pilipinas, the movement’s launch will be a reunion of sorts for politikos under the administration of former President Benigno Aquino III.

Some of the politikos expected to attend the launch are: opposition Congressmen Teddy Baguilat, Gary Alejano, Emmanuel Billiones, Raul Daza, Edgar Erice, Edcel Lagman and Tom Villarin.

Senators Franklin Drilon, Bam Aquino, Risa Hontiveros, Kiko Pangilinan and Sonny Trillanes may also be spotted at the event.

Meanwhile, MAT is led by former Senator Rene Saguisag and Sister Mary John Mananzan. Joining them are leftist leaders such as ACT Teachers Rep. Antonio Tino, former Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Neri Colmenares, National Union of People’s Lawyers Secretary General Edre Olalia, Karapatan’s Cristina Palabay and BAYAN’s Dr. Carol Araullo.

During its launch in August, MAT called on the public to take a stand and speak out against the extrajudicial killings and “other blatant acts of tyranny” since Duterte’s rule is “fast unfolding into another despotic regime.”

In an interview over state-run PTV-4, Duterte urged the “yellows” and “reds” to join forces in a massive rally he expects to happen soon.

“Hindi ko malaman dito, wala pa kaming analysis eh. Kung sumasakay ang dilaw sa left o ang left ang sumasakay sa dilaw. Pero magsama-sama na kayo. Wala akong — Ang gusto ko magsama kayo lahat na may hinanakit sa akin,” he said.

The President said even those who lost their loved ones can join the protest against him as long as they don’t break the law.
