Confirm muna bago kuda: De Lima told to check Marcelino’s text first
Maybe Senator Leila de Lima should check first if she indeed received a text message from former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) official, Marine Lieutenant Colonel Ferdinand Marcelino.
This was Justice Undersecretary Erickson Balmes’s unsolicited advice to De Lima, who claimed that she received a text message from Marcelino saying that he was being forced to testify against her.
“Kung kay Colonel Marcelino po iyon na number yun dapat ho siguro tignan din ho natin,” reckoned Balmes.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) flipped from its May 2016 resolution to dismiss all drug charges against Marcelino. Instead, it decided to file a case of possession of illegal drugs against Marcelino last September 20 before Manila courts.
Marcelino and Chinese national Yan Yi Shou were arrested by anti-narcotics authorities last January 21, 2016 in an abandoned shabu laboratory at the Celadon Residences in Sta. Cruz, Manila. Authorities seized 76,697.7 grams of shabu worth over P380 million during the operation.
