Cool dad! Piñol defies protocol for daughter, hands letter to Suu Kyi
Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Manny Piñol just won the coolest dad award in our book.
Piñol, who was part of President Rodrigo Duterte’s official delegation in his two-day visit to Myanmar practically defied protocol just to fulfill her daughter’s request of handing a letter to State Counsellor and democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi.
But to be fair, the affable Suu Kyi also shrugged off protocol. That’s how awesome the situation was.
“After the meeting with President Duterte, I was able to approach State Counsellor Suu Kyi, who earlier asked a lot of questions about agriculture in the Philippines directed at Philippine President,” Piñol wrote on his Facebook Monday (March 20).
“Your Excellency, I have a letter for you from my daughter, a young doctor. I don’t know if Protocol would allow me to give you this letter,” he told Suu Kyi, referring to his daughter, Josa Bernadette.
“Oh, never mind Protocol. Just give me the letter,” he quoted the lady politiko as saying.
Suu Kyi even urged Piñol to have their picture taken with the letter to “show her that I received it.”
“I thanked her profusely and said that I would be very happy to guide her to the different agricultural sites in the country should she come to the Philippines on the invitation of President Duterte,” added Piñol, who needless to say was very proud to accomplish such gargantuan task for his daughter. #
