‘Daming pautot’: Bilyonaryo Cynthia Villar says being a senator doesn’t exempt her from red tape
Senator Cynthia Villar on Saturday said “bureaucratic red tape” scares away would-be foreign, and even, local investors.
She was reacting to the World Bank report that placed the Philippines at 114th place, among 190 countries surveyed, in terms of the ease in doing business, a 14-point drop compared to last year’s standing.
“I think it’s the government bureaucracy. They make it hard in doing business,” the senator said.
“Marami silang pautot,” Villar said in a radio interview. The senator’s family is into real estate and owns a chain of groceries.
Villar, the wife of bilyonaryo Manny Villar, said: “Tayo nga kahit tayo senador biktima rin tayo ng bureaucracy.”
She lamented that laws meant to expedite transactions in government are not being implemented.
“Napakaraming batas. I think it’s the attitude of the people toward accepting business. Nakakalungkot,” Villar said.
“Marami namang opportunity sa business. Maraming matutulungan kaya lang kung pinahihirapan nila ang proseso ay hihina talaga ang ranking natin,” she said.
