Dapat lang! Kiko backs anti-dynasty, anti-‘balimbing’ clauses in draft charter
The anti-dynasty and anti-turncoatism provisions in the draft federal charter are, so far, the “good points” of the proposed shift to federalism.
That is according to Senator Kiko Pangilinan, chairman of the Senate Committee on Constitutional Amendments and Revision of Codes, tasked to discuss Charter change (Cha-cha).
The senators are currently studying the draft federal constitution transmitted to them by the 22-man Consultative Committee (ConCom).
Asked what are the good points that he so far identified in the draft charter, Pangilinan said, “Well yung anti-dynasty provision. Pero, medyo hilaw.”
“May exemption ‘di ba? So, sana walang exemption. So, ‘yun, I find that welcome. Yung anti-dynasty provision,” he said in a media forum on Thursday.
“Meron ding provisions on anti-turncoatism. Ibig sabihin ‘yung political butterflies, ‘yung palipat-lipat, iyon maganda rin iyon,” Pangilinan said.
He added, “At least those two in terms of electoral reform and political party reform, which is very important.”
“Kung magkaroon ng mas magandang proseso ng politika at political maturity sa ating bansa,” he said.
“Right now, almost 80% kasi ng nasa Congress are in fact political dynasties,” said Pangilinan, Liberal Party (LP) president.
He noted that more than 80% of governors belong to political dynasties and over 70% of mayors are also products of political dynasties.
