Sen. Leila de Lima is planning to file legal actions against the relentless persecution from President Rodrigo Duterte, his Cabinet men, and his congressional allies because she believes her life is in danger.

“I’m mulling several legal actions. Unang-unang Writ of Amparo and Habeas Data. I am now subject of persecution and I’m no longer safe. I dont feel safe. The truth is I am not safe,” said de Lima in an emotional press conference at the Senate Thursday

‎The Jaromay, Laurente and Pamaos Law Offices define Writ of Amparo and Habeas Data as “a remedy available to any person whose right to privacy in life, liberty or security is violated or threatened by an unlawful act or omission of a public official or employee, or of a private individual or entity engaged in the gathering, collecting or storing of data or information regarding the person, family, home and correspondence of the aggrieved party‎.”

In the last 48 hours, de Lima was ousted as chair of the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights and she was pinned down by more than a dozen of government authorities and high-profile inmates as a protector ‎of drug lords operating inside the National Bilibid Prison.

“Can i rely on the regular atuhorities in government? Can I rely now on PNP (Philippine National Police) for my security? Can I now rely on NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) as my security and Im telling the institutions themselves? Can i rely on the AFP again as an institution to give me security? Alam po ninyo ang sagot diyan. So what is my choice? They are violating my rights, right to security, right to privacy,” said de Lima.

De Lima said she has received thousands of venom-filled text messages and calls since high-profile inmates bared her cellphone number in a televised congressional probe on her dealings with drug lords during her stint as Justice Secretary.

She said that she was forced to leave her house after the inmates also revealed her address in Paranaque City.

” I am now temporarilly place of abode. Look at that. Hindi lang ako ang nagtago ha, because I live in subdivision apektado ang buong subdivison. I am now thinking extra steps, extra security measures. So that’s an added burden of the subdivison na nadadamay sila because of me,” said de Lima.
